Welcome to the new year of 2017! With the new year comes a wonderful surprise that Windows 10 is still FREE even though Microsoft wants you to think you need to purchase a copy. As long as you are running a valid copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you can legally upgrade your Windows installation to Windows 10 for FREE. How can this be so? Well, Microsoft is still offering the free Windows 10 upgrade to users who use assistive technologies, but they do nothing to check that you actually use these features. Therefore, anyone can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free. So, without further ado, let’s get upgrading…
Upgrading to Windows 10 for Free
- Open the Windows Accessibility Upgrade Website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
- Click Upgrade Now
- A download will start for the Windows 10 Upgrader (If you’re using Internet Explorer, you may need to choose Save/Run)
- Open the Windows 10 Upgrade tool you just downloaded
- You will be shown a legal agreement, choose Accept
- The next screen will scan your computer for compatibility issues, and as long as everything is good, the upgrade tool will start downloading Windows 10
- From here, the upgrade tool will guide you through the rest of the process
- Windows 10 can take a while to install and download, especially on slower internet connections and older computers. Be sure to give your PC plenty of time to complete the upgrade task.
Thanks for reading our guide on upgrading to Windows 10 for FREE in 2017! We highly recommend that you do make the switch as Windows 7 and 8.1 are coming closer and closer to their Microsoft End of Life (meaning Microsoft will no longer support those Operating Systems).
